Frequently asked questions
Do I need a dedicated appliance or scanning server?
No. Discovery is agent-side — the Monitic agents already running on your endpoints observe their own network segments. There is no appliance to deploy and no separate discovery infrastructure to maintain.
What kinds of devices does it find?
Devices that do not and cannot run an agent: printers, IP cameras, IoT and building equipment, switches, routers, access points, storage, and unmanaged computers. Anything present on a segment an agent can see.
What happens to a discovered device?
It lands in your asset inventory as a discovered asset. From there you can bring it under SNMP monitoring if it supports SNMP, deploy an agent if it is a manageable machine, or simply keep it on the books so audits and reports reflect reality.
